1. Cutouts

Summer Trend - CutoutsBlog Name: StyleOnTheCouch

From dresses to shoes to swimsuits, cutouts are a way to dress provocatively this summer: however not overtly flashy but rather more discrete, using a little peekaboo here and there.  However you choose to wear your cutouts remember the rule ‘less is more’.  For more on this trend see Herve Leger spring / summer 12 and Peter Pilotto’s fall 2012 collection.

2. Neon

Blog: A’s Fashion Files

Hello, 80’s! I feel like I’m reliving my youth seeing all of the bright neons that are back on racks this season and I absolutely love it, however I think it’s important to not go overboard. I think neon works best when paired with neutral colors to balance the look out.  And, I’m always a fan of neon accessories to add just a touch of vibrancy to your wardrobe!

3. Sunglasses Frames from the Past

Blog Name: Fashables

The aviator and wayfarer shaped sunglasses have been the shape of choice for a while now, but this summer it’s time to add some new shape to your face. Round frames and the Ray-Ban Clubmaster (seen above) shaped frames are a summer trend you can expect to see a lot of. From a fit standpoint, the Clubmaster is very friendly to a variety of different face sizes – similar to the wayfarer.

4. Vibrant Prints

Blog: Live Love Fashion

This summer it’s all about being noticed, and with a little help from these vibrant prints, this season you will definitely have that look-at-me attitude. From tropical prints to florals, and bralets to cigarette trousers, this trend works perfectly with neon brights and pastel shades – in order to create the ultimate summer-time approach. Encourage boldness with stacks of gold jewellery and dip-dye denim, which will provide a distinctive evening look. These prints are set to deliver non-stop style this season, leaving you partying till the sun comes up and making the most of the summer months.

5. Colored Denim (its still hot!),  The French Bateau Top, The Bright Cross-Body

Blog Name: Lipstick and Leopard Print

I really love that colored denim is still everywhere, and it’ll be a summer trend for sure. Out of all of the colors I have tried, the kelly green are my faves. I love wearing them with my navy and white striped French Bateau top and then adding (another) pop of color with a bright cross-body bag. The sturdy leather and clean, modern lines of this yellow bag by Dooney & Burke are what sold me! I know I will have it forever. This has definitely been my go to look this season!

6. Sheer Maxi Dress with Metallic Accessories

Blog: The City Girl in Me

What I love about this trend for summer is that it is just as easy to throw on as a shorts and a t-shirt, but looks effortless and polished for a weekend stroll. The maxi dress is a flattering cut for any body type, especially with a cinched belt, and it’s fluid shape can keep a busy girl cool on the stickiest days. I wore this look with another favorite summer trend: metallic accents. I added a pair of mirrored silver Zara flats, a vintage silver cuff, my Grandma’s opal ring, and my favorite vintage chain strap purse to balance the head-to-toe black. To take this look from day to night, swap out the flat sandals with a gorgeous strappy heel like these.

7. Patterned Shorts for Men

Blog Name: Fashables

Guys are brought up wearing solid colored shorts and anything other than that seems completely foreign, or feminine (to some). But, this summer it’s time to get comfortable with a pattern of sorts on your shorts. Yes, it’s perfectly ok to wear a solid, but don’t be scared to add a pattern to the mix. Club Monaco shorts seen above.

8. Neon Pink

Blog name: beijosTiffany

Neon Pink is the perfect way to add a dose of color into your wardrobe. The color is so eye-catching and it works for all shapes, sizes and skin tones. If you don’t feel brave enough yet for a dress or skirt in neon pink try starting out with jewelry, nails or a purse. It doesn’t matter how you add it into your wardrobe but when you wear it you will be noticed.

9. Mint Hued Accessories

Blog name: Stay in the Lines

I like this trend for summer because it is a chance to add a bit of unexpected color to an outfit. Mint is a fresh color that brings back memories of the beach, but still manages to look polished for days when you aren’t lounging in the sun. Worn here as a nailpolish color, the trend can blend perfectly into the work day, while offering an unexpected twist. I recommend mixing it with other light and fresh colors, like a white silk blouse paired with pastel pants. The airy fabrics and shades will highlight your minty nails perfectly.

10. Red

Blog name: The Smallest Pepper

Red is the perfect summer color. It commands attention but if done correctly can look demure. I like to wear it with bright red lips but the color adds something interesting to any wardrobe. Red is unexpected but traditional and looks best when worn with confidence and maybe a little attitude.

11. Cat Eye Sunglasses

Blog Name: Fashables

You may have seen these in years past, but you can fully expect to see the cat eye sunglass shape this summer. The pair above is from and retail for a whopping $19.

12. Swimming Trunks That Show Some Thigh

Blog Name: Fashables

Shorter swimming trunks have become more and more mainstream over the years for guys, but you’ll see it even more so this year. Quicksilver produces quality swimwear, and one thing I really like is that they have a variety of length options. The two above are 18″ and 19″ options, but your need will likely vary depending on height. A good rule of thumb is to try and get them to fall 1.5″ to 2″ above your knee. Purchase the pair on the left here and the pair on the right here.

13. Nautical Trend

Blog Name: Broke with Designer Taste

A nautical inspired look is perfect for summer because you can make it as causal or dressed up as you’d like. What is great about this look is you will need summer essentials which are items that you most likely already have. This includes but is not limited to a white blazer, white trousers/jeans, a blue and white striped t-shirt, a chambray button up. Then add some red accessories and an anchor and you have yourself a classic, easy summer look.

14. Two or Three Toned Lips

Blog Name: Fashables

Two-to-three-toned lips – tons of fun! I prefer MAC products because they have bolder colors than many other brands. To create the look ine the top lip in gold or silver eye shadow. Be sure to finish with a gloss!

15. Pastels and Neons

Blog name: Elle Yeah

This season, I love all the ice-cream tones, but will probably also “punk” them out a little by adding a little neon to the mix.

16. Florals

Blog Name: Love, Miffalicious

Summer and florals are practically synonymous with each other. I’ve always been a fan of floral prints to brighten up my outfit (and day). Florals don’t necessarily have to be in bold and bright prints. Go for soft colours for a more muted, and demure look, and pair it with nude accessories for a chic demeanor!

17. The Wing Tip Oxford

Blog: Fashables

They come in different textures and many different colors, which makes the Wingtip Oxford an easy purchase for just about any guy. But, this summer, don’t be intimidated from buying a pair with a little color. The pair seen above from Cole Haan will quickly become one of the most complimented pair of shoes you’ve ever owned. Seriously.

18. Summer Silk for the Office

Blog Name: Aspiring New Moms

Looking professional when the temperatures rise can be a challenge, so I am thrilled to see so many office appropriate silk pieces available! Silk fabric adds an element of polish to your look. Brights and floral prints (even neon) are perfectly acceptable for most work environments in a rich fabric.

19. Summer Trend: Aesemtric Skirts

Blog name: my berlin fashion

I love this trend because it’s so versatile and can be worn by so many different body types! You’ll find that it’s easy to style and a highlight in your wardrobe this summer.

20. White Dresses with Pops of Color

Blog name: Hayleycakes

No longer are we girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, but rather girls who are rocking out in detailed delicate white dresses with neon accessories, floral garlands and coloured hair to boot! With the return to pastel exploding at the moment, it’s easy enough to take a simple dress like this one in white or a soft shade of pink perhaps and add funky accessories so that the look can be tried out in many ways throughout summer. My suggestion is pairing it with ankle boots and some aviators for street cred!

21. Asymmetrical Fashion

Blog Name: Classic Glam Blog

Asymmetrical fashion, in my opinion, is a very daring way to wear summer clothing. I recommend getting unevenly cut bottoms (like skirts & dresses) versus shirts, for example, because flowy asymmetrical bottoms create more of a summer look. Casual forms of this trend can be easily found, as well as more formal and cocktail party-esq designs.

22. Geometric Prints

Blog Name: elle bow room

Maybe it’s because I had my mother as my high school honors geometry teacher, but I sure do love a geometric print! Geometric prints are great in the summer, especially when they include bold and bright colors. This geometric printed Everly dress is an adorable breezy piece to dress up or down all summer long! Here, I paired it with Tory Burch wedges, an oversized vintage Valentino bag, and Ray-Ban aviators. Usually, the piece that is printed is already “busy”, so little effort can be put into the rest of the outfit!

23. Summer Trend: Yellow

Blog Name: Hailes Hearts Fashion

Yellow is a color that fills us with thoughts and memories of Summer; it is bold, exciting and a challenge! If you want to try this trend for S/S 2012, then I suggest injecting a small amount into your outfit to start with (whether it is in your accessories or like my outfit, a little cardigan over a sun-dress). This is a tip for attempting any trend that you are unsure of. Most people would struggle to pull off bright yellow head-to-toe so don’t feel it has to be in every  detail of your outfit. It is also likely to be more effective!

24. Platform Sandals and Chunky Wedges

Blog Name: Fashables

Last year we saw platform sandals emerge filling the racks of Urban Outfitters and the like. This year we quickly saw chunky wedges being mixed in with the platform sandal craze. I’ve noticed these styles tend to either follow the color-blocking trend (including nude colors), sticking with one bold color or the opposite spectrum of style right now and follow the bold pattern craze. Here’s a few affordable options I really like: Kimchi Blue Macrame Wedge,  Cork Slingback Sandal, Kia Sandal.

25. Bra Tops and High-Waisted Skirts

Blog Name: Heroine Chic

Living in a hot, dry climate like I do makes it difficult to keep cool and stay chic without sporting the ubiquitous cut-off shorts all the time. This trend speaks to me – it is an easy, stylish manner of staying feminine and chic while battling warm temperatures. Photo via Asos.

And that’s a wrap for the Fashion Blogger Summer Trend Report. Hopefully the trends will inspire your summer wardrobe and help you create amazingly stylish looks. A huge thanks to all of the bloggers that took part in the report!
