Street Style Fashion: I Have a Confession

Welcome to today’s street style fashion post.

I thought about this a bit over the course of the last week, and I have a confession to make. And that’s that I had almost no desire to shoot during New York Fashion Week.

I don’t know if it was the cold, the rain, the snow, or the fact that I’m tiring of the contrived outfits and people making their way to Lincoln Center just to see if they can get their photo taken. It’s just not what I’m interested in. I want to photograph stylish people in normal environments, and if I had to guess… I’d say you appreciate those shots as well.

So in the end, I literally spent about one hour shooting outside of Lincoln Center, and a large chunk of that time was spent standing around on wet, snow covered ground… and it wasn’t much fun. But, nonetheless, there’s some fashion for you to see in this post, and one post still to come. I hope you enjoy the shots, but I certainly look forward to hitting the streets and doing what I love to do. And that’s snapping “normal’ish” people.

Snow white. FE7A9924

So, I caught the girl on the right mid expression, but she was stunning. Loved the jacket. FE7A9931

She posed for nearly 30 minutes. Seriously. FE7A9937

See, I enjoy snapping interesting photos of people NOT posing. How about that ear ring? FE7A9938

Still posing. FE7A9941

Now these two I love. I snapped them last year and they are just fantastic. FE7A9944 I found her look to be very intriguing.

Ryan, I know what you mean about taking pictures of fashion 100% of the time. NYC has so much to offer, that perhaps you can change it up from time to time. Go down to Greenwich Village and take some photos there. Or maybe the warmer weather will bring you some inspiration. I used to live up there, just outside of NYC in Westchester County, so I know what the weather is like. It can bring you down once and a while. What if you were to take pictures of food? Pets? Activities? There are lots of things that can be subjects to your camera. Hang in there.

I love #1, furry black skinnies with bootie and fab hat girl. Also love the printed cardi coat on the 2nd shot. It’s funny, as I read the intro to this post on my email I sighed a breath of relief. At the last fashion week, I unfollowed almost every fashion blogger on instagram on my reader because I was quite sick of seeing shot after shot of “them” and their bloggy friends. I first wrote it off to the fact I’m older now (44) and my body is not as in fashion shape as it used to be. I’m also much more interested in other types of design (home/packaging/social) and art now rather than my younger self who was gaga about clothes/personal accessories. Photographers like you remind me that I do still enjoy fashion, particularly when it’s real and a truly unique expression. I also prefer clothes that have something interesting in terms of print or an architectural shape.
