Ben Sherman: Great Clothes, but Horrible Return Policy

As I continue my quest to find great short-sleeve shirt options I ended up picking up this great gingham shirt from Ben Sherman. And that’s what this post was going to be about, that is, until I went to return the second shirt I bought during my last trip to Ben Sherman.

Feel free to take a quick look at the shirt below and then I’ll continue with this little story. And yes, you’ll see below that I had fun with this outfit and paired them with my purple Cole Haan Air Colton Casual Wing Tip Oxfords (love them!).

So, here’s the deal.

This shirt was only around $65, which is pretty inexpensive for a Ben Sherman shirt. The other shirt that I went to return was around $109, which in my world is a chunk of change. When I went to take the shirt back the store clerk gave me some wonky story about their return policy. It turned out not to be true, but their return policy is in fact worse than the clerk actually told me.

Basically, Ben Sherman doesn’t give refunds; you’ll get a store credit or be allowed to make an exchange. And that’s crap.

I wasn’t going to write this post until someone else told me that they also got burned by this anti-customer friendly Ben Sherman return policy. What fueled my irritation even more is when the store clerk acted like it was my fault for not knowing their return policy. He, and another guy, acted like this was some sort of norm… and I was thinking, “are you freaking kidding me?!”

I like the brands fit and quality, but their return policy blows. I’ve not shopped at a Ben Sherman store since this took place, and quite frankly, I don’t know when I will again.

I admit to having a vested interest as I own a company that retails Ben Sherman online, but you will find that independant etailers usually have very good return policies (we have to, to survive in a very competative environment), and we are usually as competatively priced as the brands own website.

What kind of place doesn’t give refunds on new clothing? Gross. I would avoid shopping somewhere where I noticed that.

      Fantastic question.

You did the right thing, putting it out there on your blog. I’ve bought that brand for my husband, but not anymore! They will be sorry. And if they see this, they should come to you on bended knee. Love your shots Ryan. But why all the young women with gorgeous legs? Hmmm.

Yeah, then you have to deal with added fees and shipping charges. That’s a lot to handle just because they don’t do refunds.

I was shocked to hear about no refunds policy when I tried to return a shirt today. It is not U.S standard. I am very upset. I took store credit in the end. That’s why I haven’t seen many shoppers there as before? I hope they won’t shut down the retail shop soon, because I don’t have any plan to use it soon.

Sorry you had to deal with that. It’s such an unfortunate policy.
