While visiting Banana Republic the other day this Classic Navy Topcoat stood out pretty quickly as soon as I made my way to the second floor men’s section at their SoHo store.

These coats can be very hit or miss, and a lot of brands have taken a stab at them, but the fit or quality is typically compromised while trying to affordable be Burberry.

So let’s see how Banana Republic did with this one.

I’d consider myself to have a pretty standard build, and Banana Republic coats typically fit me quite well. And there was no exception with this topcoat.

The shoulders were spot on, and the arms were also a good length. Personally, I like for my coat arms to fit a little long to help protect some of my hands from the elements if I don’t have on gloves.

This coat isn’t meant to provide crazy amounts of warmth – I mean, keep in mind that is a topcoat after all, but it will provide a little.

The front pockets are in an ideal location and the three button closure works quite well; keep in mind that buttoning the middle button is the way to wear this.

The only thing they could have done to add a little more flavor would have been to added a built in belt (that you would of course never tie). But hey, you can’t have everything for $225. This Banana Republic Topcoat is a good buy and you can click here to pick it up. (Note: get 25% off thru Feb 5).
